2.8 tonnes. That may be the most revealing number with which to introduce the SAY 32. Not its 50-knot top speed, and not even the 560 horsepower available from its engines, but the remarkably low weight of a boat measuring almost ten metres. At SAY Carbon Yachts, lightness is not simply a consequence of the design process. It is where that process begins.
The German builder has brought this philosophy into a relatively compact package measuring 9.98 metres long and 2.97 metres across the beam. Carbon-fibre construction helps keep dry weight down to 2.8 tonnes, while two 280 hp Volvo Penta V6 engines provide a combined 560 hp and a manufacturer-declared maximum speed of 50 knots.
Lightness becomes part of the driving experience
There is an obvious way to make a performance boat faster: add more power. SAY Carbon Yachts approaches the equation from another direction by first reducing the mass those engines have to move. The principle is straightforward. A lighter structure can achieve strong performance with less extreme power requirements while also creating opportunities to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Across its range, SAY promotes 100% carbon-fibre hull construction, weights up to 50% lower than comparable models and fuel consumption reductions of up to 40%. Those figures describe the broader engineering philosophy of the brand rather than every operating condition of the SAY 32, but they help explain why weight receives so much attention in the company’s designs.
Almost ten metres with 50 knots on tap
The relationship between dimensions and performance becomes particularly interesting aboard the SAY 32. Its twin Volvo Penta V6 engines, coupled to Aquamatic DuoProp drives, deliver a combined 560 hp, while maximum speed is quoted at 50 knots. Fuel capacity is 470 litres and the builder states a range of up to 280 nautical miles.
Yet outright speed is only one part of the intended experience. SAY puts considerable emphasis on agility, structural rigidity and direct response at the helm, bringing elements of performance-car thinking into the marine environment. The company itself openly connects its construction philosophy with expertise developed around high-performance automotive engineering.
The helm is very much part of the experience
A digital cockpit places the principal controls and information directly in front of the driver, while adjustable shock-absorbing racing seats are intended to provide greater support and stability when speeds rise. It is a detail that reveals an important aspect of the SAY 32: this is not simply a boat designed to look fast while sitting alongside the quay.
Its low windscreen, sharp lines and purposeful geometry reinforce its sporting personality, although performance does not dominate every part of the layout. The interesting part of the design is what happens when the throttles come back.
Slow down and the personality changes
Away from acceleration and top-speed figures, the SAY 32 becomes an open day yacht intended for spending long hours outside. Sun loungers are positioned forward and aft, while sofa seating and adjustable tables provide dining space for eight people. A generous bathing platform creates the natural connection with the water, and maximum capacity is stated at eight guests.
That dual personality feels particularly appropriate to Mediterranean boating. Fifty knots can shorten the distance between destinations considerably, while the open deck takes over once the destination itself becomes irrelevant and the afternoon is simply about swimming, eating and staying at anchor.
Carbon fibre is about more than speed
Carbon fibre is almost automatically associated with performance, but SAY places the material within a wider engineering strategy. Its high strength-to-weight ratio allows the builder to create structures that are both rigid and light, with reduced mass also contributing to the hydrodynamic efficiency of the finished yacht.
This approach extends throughout the SAY Carbon Yachts range. Production is based in Germany in the Lake Constance region, where the company oversees the process from design through to assembly and combines carbon construction, engineering and contemporary styling within the same development philosophy.
Compact in the range, ambitious in character
The SAY 32 is currently the most compact model in the SAY family, sitting below the SAY 42, SAY 42 Sport and SAY 52. Introduced in 2025, it evolved from the philosophy behind the earlier SAY 29, with the aim of retaining agility and driver engagement while bringing greater versatility and comfort into the package.
At less than ten metres long, weighing 2.8 tonnes and capable of a claimed 50 knots, the SAY 32 does not fit comfortably into a single description. It is certainly a day yacht. It is equally a performance boat.
Its more interesting proposition, however, may be the idea behind it. Performance does not always have to begin by asking “how much more horsepower can we add?”.
With the SAY 32, the more intriguing question is how much weight can be removed before the engines are even started.
