Panerai Submersible PAM01756 brings a steel bracelet to the 44 mm diver, with 500-metre water resistance and the P.980 calibre

A serious diving watch does not necessarily have to look like an instrument intended exclusively for the depths. The new Panerai Submersible PAM01756 moves comfortably between these two worlds, retaining the dimensions, water resistance and legibility expected from a professional diver while introducing a stainless-steel bracelet that significantly changes its presence on the wrist.

It is the first 44 mm Submersible to adopt this steel-bracelet configuration. The case retains the collection’s characteristically robust identity, while the combination of steel, a black dial and blue ceramic gives the PAM01756 a personality that can move naturally between technical equipment and relaxed contemporary style.

From a yacht deck to the depths below

The connection between Panerai and the sea goes considerably further than visual inspiration. On the PAM01756 this relationship appears in very concrete specifications, beginning with water resistance rated at 50 bar, or approximately 500 metres.

A unidirectional rotating bezel combines steel with a polished blue ceramic insert and graduated scale for measuring elapsed time underwater. Panerai also states that its water-resistance testing exceeds the guaranteed depth by 25 percent.

Those figures go far beyond what would ever be required during an ordinary day aboard a yacht. But that excess capability is also part of the appeal of a genuine dive watch. Most owners may never approach its operational limits, yet knowing those limits exist remains part of its character.

Blue ceramic surrounds a deliberately simple dial

The visual language is based on relatively few elements. The 44 mm stainless-steel case has a brushed finish, while the polished blue ceramic bezel introduces a maritime colour accent without dominating the watch.

Inside it sits a black sun-brushed dial whose appearance changes subtly as light moves across its surface. There is no date window. Hours, minutes and small seconds at 9 o’clock remain the main information, accompanied by luminous indexes and markers designed to preserve clarity when light conditions deteriorate.

That approach makes particular sense around the sea, where conditions can change quickly from bright Mediterranean sunlight to the subdued interior of a yacht or the very different environment below the surface.

The bracelet carries a familiar Panerai signature

The most significant change is found around the wrist. Alternating polished and brushed surfaces give the metal bracelet depth, while the shape of its links recalls Panerai’s unmistakable crown-protection bridge.

The reference goes beyond styling. The PAM01756 also introduces a quick length-adjustment system to the Submersible collection, allowing the bracelet to expand by 2 mm on either side without tools.

It sounds like a minor technical detail, but it addresses something anyone who spends a warm day outdoors will recognise. Temperature and physical activity can slightly change wrist size, and a bracelet that felt perfect in the morning may feel very different after several hours under the sun.

That small degree of adjustment makes the watch particularly suited to the rhythm of a day at sea, moving from cruising and swimming to an evening ashore without changing its character.

Three days of autonomy beneath the dial

Power comes from Panerai’s P.980 automatic calibre. The mechanical movement consists of 169 components and 23 jewels, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a three-day power reserve.

Its construction includes a traversing balance bridge, Incabloc shock protection and a stop-seconds function for more precise time setting. Rather than filling the watch with additional complications, Panerai keeps the mechanical package aligned with the Submersible philosophy, focusing on durability, autonomy and essential functions.

Less information gives the watch more character

At a time when sports watches frequently compete through additional displays, materials and functions, the PAM01756 takes an almost opposite approach. Its personality comes from proportion, construction and recognition rather than visual complexity.

Removing the date reinforces this simplicity. The dial presents what is required to read the time quickly and leaves the rest outside. WatchTime also notes the use of different luminous colours for key indications, helping distinguish timing information underwater.

The result feels consistent with the original concept of a diving instrument, even though the finishing and steel bracelet place the watch comfortably within a much broader lifestyle environment.

A Submersible that belongs above water too

At 44 mm, with 500 metres of water resistance and a construction clearly developed around robustness, the PAM01756 makes no attempt to disguise its tool-watch origins.

The bracelet, however, changes the conversation. Alongside the black dial and blue ceramic, steel gives this Submersible a more versatile presence, one particularly suited to the contemporary yachting world where technical equipment and personal style increasingly occupy the same space.

It remains a watch capable of travelling far beneath the surface. Yet it is equally easy to picture it several metres above sea level, on the deck of a yacht as the Mediterranean light begins to fade.
