Automobili Mignatta reveals the Rina Coupé sketches at Goodwood 2026, previewing a new Italian grand tourer for 2027

In today’s automotive world, where electrification, software and digital assistance systems dominate much of the conversation, Automobili Mignatta is choosing a more intimate and unconventional path. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026, the young Piedmont-based manufacturer presented the first sketches of the Rina Coupé, a new variant designed to stand alongside the Barchetta and expand the project from 2027.

This is not simply a matter of adding a roof to a sports car with an already strong identity. The Rina Coupé seems to express a different idea of fast travel, closer to the tradition of great Italian grand tourers, yet shaped with modern materials and construction techniques. It is a car aimed at those who still appreciate the physical act of driving, mechanical sound, lightness and the direct relationship between driver and machine that many modern cars have gradually softened.

Lines inspired by the Sixties

The design of the new Coupé looks back to Italian sports cars of the 1960s without becoming a nostalgic exercise. The profile is sleek, the roof adopts the classic double bubble solution, while the truncated tail and round rear lights recall a visual language based on balance, simplicity and proportion.

The closed body changes the perception of the Rina. While the Barchetta expresses the most essential pleasure of open-air driving, the Coupé suggests a more grand touring character, combining elegance, aerodynamic presence and sporting intent. Judging from the first sketches, the result is a car that does not try to impress through aggression, but through the consistency of its shapes.

Carbon fibre, kevlar and low weight

The technical basis remains faithful to the philosophy of the original project. Rina uses a proprietary carbon-fibre monocoque reinforced with kevlar, a solution designed to reduce weight while ensuring structural rigidity. The bodywork follows the same path, combining composite materials with an artisanal construction approach.

The declared weight of around 1,000 kg is one of the key aspects of the project. At a time when many sports cars easily exceed two tonnes, Automobili Mignatta is moving in the opposite direction, focusing on reduced mass, balance and immediate response. In this case, lightness is not just a technical figure, but a clear statement of intent.

A naturally aspirated V8 for unfiltered driving

At the heart of the experience is a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine producing around 500 hp, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox in a transaxle layout. The engine is positioned front-mid, while the gearbox and limited-slip differential are located at the rear to help achieve balanced weight distribution.

It is a rare and almost romantic recipe, but not an outdated one. Rear-wheel drive, a manual gearbox and the absence of intrusive electronic mediation create a very precise technical language. Rina does not aim to feel easy at all costs. It aims to feel honest. And for many enthusiasts, that honesty is now as valuable as any number on a performance sheet.

The Barchetta appears in a new interpretation

At Goodwood, alongside the Coupé sketches, Automobili Mignatta also presented a new interpretation of the Rina Barchetta. The car stands out for its light paint finish, conceived as a tribute to the Piedmontese master panel beaters who, in the 1960s, helped shape the bodies of some of Italy’s most fascinating sports cars.

The colour changes subtly depending on the light, revealing delicate reflections and enhancing the sculpted surfaces of the car. Forged carbon details complete the specification, bringing a distinctive marbled effect to both exterior and interior elements. One of the most interesting features is a new gear lever turret machined from solid metal, designed to make each shift feel even more mechanical and direct.

A niche project with Italian identity

Automobili Mignatta operates in a deliberately exclusive field. Each Rina is built in Piedmont with an artisanal approach, leaving room for customer personalisation. It is a way of interpreting the automobile that does not chase large numbers, but focuses instead on the relationship between object, designer and owner.

In this sense, the Rina Coupé is not merely a new body style. It is a sign of continuity. It shows that the project can evolve without losing its soul, remaining loyal to an idea of sportiness shaped by clean proportions, noble materials, a naturally aspirated engine and genuine driving involvement.

Goodwood as a natural stage

The decision to present the Coupé at Goodwood feels consistent with the personality of the car. The Festival of Speed is one of the places where automotive culture is celebrated across generations, bringing together history, performance, competition, collecting and innovation. For a young brand deeply connected to the Italian tradition of lightweight sports cars, it is a fitting stage.

The Rina Coupé looks ahead without rejecting what still makes a sports car emotional. It does not try to replace the driver with an algorithm, nor does it turn driving into a sequence of automated actions. It leaves space for sound, for the hand on the gear lever, for chassis precision and for that small dose of imperfection that makes every journey different from the last.
