FJORD 490 Sport combines 1,800 hp, 40-plus-knot performance and open walkaround spaces designed for Mediterranean cruising

Three Mercury V12 outboards lined up across the stern immediately reveal the character of the FJORD 490 Sport. Yet its 1,800 horsepower tells only part of the story. Behind the performance figures is a yacht designed around open space, easy movement and a strong connection with the sea.

At just over 15 metres, the 490 Sport combines a walkaround deck, a 4.58-metre beam and a large T-Top to create a platform where cruising, relaxing and socialising become part of the same environment.

Three Mercury V12 engines shape the personality of the yacht

The propulsion setup is one of the defining features of the Sport version. At the stern are three Mercury Verado V12 600 hp outboards, delivering a combined 1,800 horsepower and a shipyard-declared top speed of more than 40 knots.

These numbers matter, but not simply because they make the yacht fast. Power expands the possibilities of a day at sea, making it easier to move quickly between a marina, an island, a secluded anchorage or another stretch of coastline.

Around the Mediterranean, that flexibility can transform the way the yacht is used. A destination that would otherwise require a long passage can become part of the same day, leaving more time for swimming, lunch or simply staying at anchor.

A walkaround layout designed for natural movement

The deck arrangement allows passengers to move easily from stern to bow without unnecessary obstacles. It is a simple idea, but one that has a major influence on the atmosphere on board.

Open areas dominate the layout. The cockpit can become a dining space, a social area or a lounge, while the bow features a generous sunpad that can also be configured with a chaise longue.

The 4.58-metre beam gives the yacht a sense of space that feels substantial for its overall length. Rather than dividing the deck into rigid zones, the design allows different areas to remain visually and physically connected.

Italian design within the unmistakable FJORD identity

The exterior styling is by Marco Casali, who retains the distinctive visual language associated with FJORD. Strong hull sides, sharp geometry and clean surfaces give the 490 Sport a contemporary and immediately recognisable profile.

The large T-Top provides shelter over the central section of the yacht without isolating it from the surroundings. This is central to the character of the boat, which is designed to keep the sea and the landscape constantly within view.

The result is closer to a moving terrace on the water than to a conventional enclosed yacht environment.

Opening the deck even further towards the water

Among the available options are electro-hydraulic side terraces, which can extend the usable deck area when the yacht is at anchor.

Once deployed, they change the relationship between the boat and the water, creating a broader platform for relaxing, swimming or simply spending time outdoors. The aft area can also be configured with a bathing platform featuring a hydraulic lift and integrated ladder.

These solutions become particularly valuable during long stops, when the yacht changes role from fast cruiser to private space on the sea.

Below deck, the journey does not have to end at sunset

Although the 490 Sport is strongly focused on outdoor living, the interior offers enough flexibility to extend the experience beyond a single day.

The FJORD 490 platform can accommodate two double cabins, including a full-beam owner’s cabin amidships. An alternative layout can replace one of the cabins with a U-shaped seating area.

This gives owners different ways to use the yacht, from pure day boating to weekends, overnight stays at anchor or short coastal cruises.

Fifteen metres shaped around freedom of use

The FJORD 490 Sport measures 15.32 metres overall, with a beam of 4.58 metres and a maximum draft of approximately 0.92 metres. Fuel capacity is 3,000 litres, while the fresh-water tank holds 390 litres.

The yacht carries CE Category B certification and is designed for up to 12 people.

The specifications help define the scale of the project, but its personality lies in the way these elements come together. The 490 Sport combines high performance with open living areas, generous dimensions with easy circulation and speed with the possibility of slowing down once the right anchorage has been found.

It is a contemporary interpretation of the day yacht, built around the freedom to change destination, pace and plans whenever the sea suggests something better.
