FIM 580 Contessa makes its Cannes debut, introducing a new Italian sport-fly flagship designed for a closer connection with the sea

A yacht’s first public appearance often reveals much more than a new addition to a shipyard’s range. For the FIM 580 Contessa, due to make its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival, the occasion marks Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi’s entry into the sport-fly segment and the beginning of a more ambitious design chapter.

Measuring 17.80 metres in overall length, the new flagship introduces a different approach to life on board, bringing performance, generous outdoor areas and cruising comfort together without asking owners to choose between a sporty personality and a relaxed experience at sea.

A new flagship for the FIM range

The 580 Contessa launches the new Contessa line alongside the established Regina range, extending the yard’s portfolio into a larger and more versatile market segment. Rather than simply adding a flybridge to a sports yacht, FIM has developed a model that retains a dynamic profile while providing an additional panoramic area for cruising, entertaining and relaxing at anchor.

Careful attention has been paid to integrating the flybridge into the yacht’s proportions. Seen from the side, the superstructure remains light and streamlined, avoiding the visual separation sometimes associated with yachts in this category.

A flybridge designed for more than navigation

The upper deck is not intended merely as a second helm station. It becomes an extension of the outdoor living space, offering an elevated place from which to pilot the yacht, enjoy the surrounding coastline or spend time with family and guests.

This reflects the contemporary meaning of a sport-fly yacht, combining some of the freedom and immediate connection with the sea associated with open boats with the space required for longer and more comfortable cruising. Different areas are available throughout the yacht, yet the overall experience remains fluid and connected.

A stern that opens towards the water

One of the defining features of the FIM 580 Contessa is found aft, where folding side terraces increase the usable surface and transform the cockpit into a broad beach area close to the water. Although this concept has become increasingly familiar in modern yacht design, here it forms part of a layout focused on continuity between relaxation, movement and direct access to the sea.

The foredeck is equally flexible. Its sunpad can be converted into a seating area, creating a more private setting for conversation, quiet moments or simply enjoying the view away from the activity of the aft cockpit.

Interiors with a natural sense of continuity

The main-deck layout follows a clear idea, allowing the saloon and cockpit to feel like parts of one uninterrupted environment. A level floor makes movement between the two areas easier, while electrically operated side windows and an opening louvred roof provide control over natural light, fresh air and shade.

The galley reinforces this connection. Its worktop extends from the interior towards the cockpit, encouraging a relaxed and sociable way of spending time on board. Preparing food or drinks does not mean leaving the company of guests, and the main living area can adapt naturally as the mood changes throughout the day.

Three cabins and a private owner’s suite

Below deck, the accommodation includes three principal cabins together with two crew berths. The full-beam owner’s suite occupies a secluded part of the yacht, offering privacy, natural light and the sense of space expected from a flagship model.

Developed by FIM in collaboration with Studio Nerocardinale, the interior design balances contemporary elegance with practical use. The cabins are not treated simply as places to sleep, but as comfortable private spaces suitable for extended stays and multi-day cruising.

Twin Volvo Penta IPS power

The FIM 580 Contessa is powered by two Volvo Penta D11 IPS 950 engines, each producing 725 hp. The IPS propulsion system is designed to support responsive handling and easier manoeuvring, particularly valuable aboard a yacht measuring almost 18 metres and weighing 26 tonnes when dry.

Fuel capacity totals 2,500 litres, while the fresh-water tank holds 500 litres. The yacht is approved to carry up to 16 people and is built to CE design category B.

An international stage in Cannes

The FIM 580 Contessa will meet the international public at the Cannes Yachting Festival, taking place from 8 to 13 September 2026. It will be displayed alongside the 500 Regina and 440 Regina, presenting visitors with a broader view of the Italian yard’s identity and evolving range.

FIM will also reveal the first details of the forthcoming 400 Contessa Coupé, currently scheduled to arrive in spring 2027. The 580 Contessa therefore appears not as an isolated project, but as the opening model in a family that will grow through yachts with different dimensions and personalities.

For FIM, the new flagship represents a tangible step towards a broader international presence. For those stepping aboard in Cannes, it will offer an opportunity to discover a yacht designed to change its atmosphere throughout the day, energetic while under way, open and sociable at anchor, then quieter and more intimate as evening approaches.
