More than 50 square metres aft, Volvo Penta IPS propulsion and solar panels define a yacht designed around outdoor living

The Arcadia Yachts Sherpa 60 measures 18.67 metres, but a look at the way its spaces are distributed is enough to understand that length tells only part of the story. Rather than using every available metre to increase enclosed areas and superstructure, the design dedicates a substantial part of the yacht to outdoor living. The result is a motor yacht where the aft deck, the sea and social life become central elements of the onboard experience.

A terrace of more than 50 square metres

The area that most clearly defines the Sherpa 60 is the aft deck, a surface of more than 50 square metres conceived by Arcadia as a large and customisable space. Rather than acting simply as a passage towards the saloon, it becomes a genuine terrace overlooking the sea, able to change configuration according to the owner’s preferred way of using the yacht.

It is a particularly relevant solution in the Mediterranean, where a considerable part of the day on board is spent outside, between time at anchor, swimming, lunches and relaxed social moments. Having such a large surface on a yacht of this size makes it possible to experience the aft deck almost as an independent living area, while maintaining a continuous connection with the surrounding landscape.

Space is not only visible, it is usable

The Sherpa 60 philosophy continues below the main deck. Arcadia states a storage volume of approximately 23,000 litres, a significant capacity for a yacht measuring just under 19 metres.

It is the kind of figure that may appear secondary when simply looking at the yacht’s lines, but becomes far more relevant in everyday use. Tenders, equipment and water toys all require space, especially when the yacht is used for longer periods or as a base for entire days at anchor. Keeping much of this equipment separate from guest areas also helps preserve order and space in the main living zones.

Interiors that adapt to the owner

Flexibility is also central on the lower deck. Arcadia offers different layouts, including the option of choosing between a larger suite or a two-cabin arrangement.

There is therefore no single interpretation of the Sherpa 60. A couple who uses the yacht frequently may prefer more generous private spaces, while owners who usually cruise with family or friends can opt for a layout offering more cabins. It is an approach consistent with a project that gives priority to the way the yacht is actually used rather than to a rigid internal layout.

A hull designed for balance and efficiency

The hull is semi-planing and propulsion is provided by two Volvo Penta IPS units. The standard configuration features twin IPS 600 engines delivering 440 hp each, while IPS 700 units rated at 550 hp and IPS 800 units rated at 600 hp are also available.

According to the shipyard’s figures, the three configurations provide estimated maximum speeds of approximately 19.5, 21 and 22 knots, with cruising speeds of around 16, 17 and 18 knots. Arcadia specifies that these performance figures are estimated with a clean hull, one-third liquid load, an air temperature of 25 °C, good weather conditions and six people on board.

Rather than pursuing extreme speed, the project appears to focus on a balance between performance, comfort and efficiency, in keeping with the character of a yacht designed primarily to be lived on.

The sun becomes part of the onboard system

Solar panels have long been one of the recognisable elements of Arcadia Yachts’ design philosophy. On the Sherpa 60, the shipyard’s updated technical data indicate an energy production of approximately 3.4 kW.

The aim is not to replace conventional onboard power systems completely, but to integrate an additional source capable of contributing to the operation of onboard services. It is a particularly coherent solution for a yacht designed to spend long periods outdoors and at anchor.

18.67 metres designed around life on board

With a maximum beam of 5.58 metres, a draft of 1.32 metres and a declared full-load displacement of 33 tonnes in standard configuration, the Sherpa 60 has proportions that help explain the sense of space generated by the project. Fuel capacity is 3,400 litres, while fresh water capacity reaches 730 litres.

Yet perhaps the most interesting aspect cannot be found in a technical table. It lies in the way Arcadia has used these dimensions. The Sherpa 60 does not simply try to appear larger; it uses its volumes to prioritise what happens during the day: spending time outdoors, moving freely, welcoming friends, staying close to the water and enjoying longer periods at anchor.

It is a philosophy that feels particularly natural in the Mediterranean, where the value of a yacht is often determined not only by how quickly it reaches a destination, but by how well it allows that destination to be enjoyed once there.
