“Climate change and sea level rise are problems faced by this generation," said Roddy Blair, Marina Manager of Porto Montenegro. "Porto Montenegro, as the main superyacht marina in the Mediterranean area, does its best to help nature and is ideally placed to promote best environmental practices.”

Porto Montenegro is the first marina in the world to receive Platinum accreditation from The Yacht Harbour and Marina Industries Associations, thanks to its environmental awareness and commitment to building a culture of eco-consciousness. "It’s an important part of our reputation," adds Blair. Porto Montenegro is located in the heart of UNESCO-protected Boka Bay, an area of extraordinary natural beauty and one of the world’s most scenic cruise destinations.

Within the marina itself, Porto Montenegro takes measures to help minimize its carbon footprint, using solar panels to heat water in a number of service blocks, as well as to use electric vehicles throughout the marina while keeping emissions to a minimum. "They’re small details, but step by step, they build the big picture," said Roddy Blair.

To protect against fires and defend the beautiful forests on the shores of Boka Bay, Porto Montenegro launched its own fire guard boat. The 9.79-metre vessel, worth 400,000 euros, serves the marina and local rescue service in the municipality of Tivat and was built by the local company Navar Incorporated.

The boat was named Jovana, named after the daughter of one of Porto Montenegro’s most famous employees, the Safety and Environmental Protection Manager, Aleksandar Drakulovic. As an additional measure, Porto Montenegro, buys drinking water in large quantities from sustainable sources. Water is used to fill reusable glass bottles as opposed to plastic bottles. "It looks much better than plastic and, above all, it doesn’t hurt the environment," concludes Roddy Blair.
