Each watch is available in the usual 41mm steel case treated with black DLC and is powered by an automatic movement. The big difference lies in the presence of the name of the city, along with the Bulgari logo, engraved on the bezel. For many it will be nothing special but to truly appreciate the meaning of these pieces, you have to enter into the history of Bulgari.Marion Fasel, founder and editorial director of the jewelry website "The Adventurine" and author of three books on Bulgari’s watch and jewelry models, describes the creation of the collection as "a happy accident".In 1975, Bulgari made a limited-edition watch as a gift for 100 of its best customers. The mark engraved the words Bulgari and Rome on the round yellow case of the watch, partly because this was a digital age and lacked a place to engrave the name of the brand on the dial, and partly because it represented: "an echo of the way the Roman emperors coined the coins", says Fasel. In 1977, this model gave birth to the first Bulgari collection, paving the way for the brand to enter the watch category. Today, a set of a dozen illustrated art prints created as odes to each city accompany every model in the collection. The pieces are equipped with two straps, one in brown veal leather and one in black rubber and are retailed for 4,350 dollars.www.bulgari.com
