With Supernova 50, Maiora is entering the steel and aluminium superyacht segment for the first time. Revealed in Cannes on 9 September 2026, the new 50-metre yacht has been developed with Tommaso Spadolini and ELIE SAAB, marking an important industrial step as the brand moves into the world of displacement yachts below 500 GT.
A new chapter for Maiora
Supernova 50 introduces a different approach from the type of yachts traditionally associated with the yard. The hull is built in steel, the superstructure in light alloy and the yacht is arranged over five decks. Overall length is 49.80 metres, beam is 9.05 metres and gross tonnage is 499 GT.
Exterior lines and general arrangement are co-authored by Tommaso Spadolini and ELIE SAAB. The design focuses on proportions, volume and continuity between indoor and outdoor areas, aiming to provide on a 50-metre platform spaces more commonly associated with larger yachts.
Six cabins and a dedicated owner’s deck
The accommodation is designed for 12 guests in six cabins. The owner’s suite occupies the Owner’s Deck, with panoramic 180-degree sea views and a private forward terrace. Maiora states that the combined interior and exterior area dedicated to the owner totals approximately 90 m².
Five guest cabins are located on the main deck, including two full suites. One extends to approximately 30 m², while each has a private terrace of around 7 m². The arrangement is intended to give guests a level of privacy and direct connection with the sea normally associated with the owner’s accommodation.
Interiors by ELIE SAAB
The interiors are developed by ELIE SAAB under the creative direction of Elie Saab and Carlo Colombo. The scheme combines pieces from the ELIE SAAB Maison collection with bespoke elements created specifically for the marine environment.
The yard’s presentation places emphasis on proportion, natural light, materials and visual continuity. The central design idea is a hospitality-inspired approach to circulation and to the relationship between interior and exterior spaces.
A beach area conceived as an extension over the sea
Aft, the beach area is designed as a transformable space with a pool and fold-down wings that increase the usable surface. Tender storage is incorporated without completely sacrificing the area available to guests.
Outdoor spaces are distributed across all five decks, alternating social areas, relaxation zones and more private settings. Terraces on the main-deck suites and Owner’s Deck reinforce the role of the sea as a structural part of the layout rather than simply a backdrop.
A 50-metre yacht designed for extended cruising
Supernova 50 is conceived for long-range cruising. Maximum draught is 2.40 metres, with a declared maximum speed of 16 knots and cruising speed of 11 knots. According to the shipyard, projected range is 4,150 nautical miles at 11 knots.
Propulsion is provided by two MAN D2862-LE489 engines producing 1,066 kW each. Fuel capacity is 56,000 litres and fresh-water capacity 13,400 litres. The wheelhouse is positioned on the Sun Deck alongside the captain’s cabin, freeing other volumes while providing extensive visibility from the bridge.
An industrial step as well as a design statement
For Maiora, Supernova 50 represents a concrete move into steel and aluminium superyacht construction. Production is concentrated between the group’s Pisa and Viareggio facilities, with construction, outfitting and completion managed within the same industrial organisation.
The first yacht is currently under construction at the SIMAN facilities in Pisa, with delivery scheduled for the second half of 2028. The project therefore represents more than an increase in size: it extends Maiora’s construction capability into a different category while remaining below 500 GT and retaining a focus on long-range cruising, generous volumes and extended life on board.
