With the new A48 O/B, Cranchi Yachts expands its Aria range with an approximately 15-metre walkaround powered exclusively by outboard engines. The design retains the open character of the series while introducing a new T-top, a wraparound windscreen and three triple-engine configurations aimed at a more dynamic style of cruising.
More protection while retaining the open character
The new T-top and wraparound windscreen change the feel of the helm area compared with a more conventional open yacht. Their purpose is to provide greater shelter from the wind while maintaining the direct connection between cockpit, deck and sea.
Aft, the side platforms incorporate a step that makes access to the water easier, while fold-down bulwarks increase the usable surface and create a broad beach area along the sides of the yacht.
Outboard propulsion also frees up some of the volume that would normally be occupied by an engine room, giving the interior layout greater flexibility.
14.56 metres long and 4.29 metres wide
According to the preliminary figures released by the yard, the A48 O/B has an overall length of approximately 14.56 metres, increasing to 14.75 metres with the engines included. Beam is approximately 4.29 metres, while draught at the propellers is listed at 1.28 metres.
The hull is by Aldo Cranchi, with design developed by the yard’s Centro Studi e Ricerche. Art direction is by Christian Grande.
The design category and maximum passenger capacity are still awaiting type approval. Cranchi also states that the published specifications are preliminary and may therefore change.
Three outboard configurations
Cranchi lists three propulsion options. Two use Mercury Verado engines: triple V10 V425 ES units or triple V12 V600 units. The third configuration uses three Yamaha XF450 NSA outboards.
Fuel capacity is approximately 2,185 litres, while the freshwater tank holds around 300 litres. The yard has not yet published performance, fuel-consumption or range figures, so these cannot be assessed from the information currently available.
A separate owner’s cabin
Below deck, one of the defining features is a fully separate owner’s cabin. The arrangement is intended to provide greater privacy during longer stays aboard and positions the A48 O/B as more than a yacht designed only for day use.
The layout also includes a main deck structured around the T-top and fold-down bulwarks, together with the accommodation spaces on the lower deck. The design therefore combines the open layout expected of a walkaround with spaces intended to support longer cruising.
The A48 O/B joins the Aria range
The A48 O/B becomes part of Cranchi’s Aria line, which groups the yard’s more open yachts designed around outdoor living. The same family also includes the A64, A47, A46 Luxury Tender and smaller models in the range.
With the new 15-metre model, Cranchi brings outboard propulsion to the dimensions and volumes of a cruising yacht while retaining several defining open-yacht characteristics: large exterior areas, direct access to the water and continuity between different parts of the deck.
