The new Porsche Cayenne Electric combines high performance, up to 654 km WLTP range and technology derived from motorsport

The Porsche Cayenne Electric takes one of the Zuffenhausen manufacturer’s most important models into a new phase, with an 800-volt electric platform, a 113 kWh battery and a range comprising the Cayenne Electric, Cayenne S Electric and Cayenne Turbo Electric. The move to electric propulsion does not change the project’s underlying approach: high performance, comfort over long distances and the ability to tackle routes beyond paved roads.

Three power levels for the Cayenne Electric

The range starts with the Cayenne Electric, which develops 300 kW (408 PS) in normal driving and reaches 325 kW (442 PS) with Launch Control. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.8 seconds, while the declared top speed is 230 km/h.

The Cayenne S Electric raises output to 400 kW (544 PS), increasing to 490 kW (666 PS) with Launch Control. The 0-100 km/h time drops to 3.8 seconds and top speed rises to 250 km/h.

At the top of the range is the Cayenne Turbo Electric. Its powertrain delivers up to 630 kW (857 PS) in normal driving and can reach 850 kW (1,156 PS) with Launch Control, with maximum torque of 1,500 Nm. According to Porsche, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and reaches 260 km/h.

Managing weight through the chassis

Electrification brings considerable mass with it, exceeding 2.5 tonnes across the different versions. A significant part of the project therefore focuses on controlling body movement and distributing torque across all four wheels.

Adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management forms the basis of the chassis set-up, while higher-performance versions add systems including Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and Porsche Active Ride. The latter uses active suspension to counter roll and pitch and keep the body more stable.

During Top Gear Italia’s first drive in Cappadocia, the Cayenne S Electric demonstrated precisely this ability to contain the movements typical of a large SUV while maintaining comfort over uneven surfaces and precision during faster driving.

Electric motors and technology derived from motorsport

All versions use two electric motors and all-wheel drive. On the Cayenne S Electric and Turbo, the rear motor uses a direct oil-cooling system derived from Porsche’s experience in electric motorsport.

Electronic torque management also plays an important role away from paved roads. The immediate response of the electric motors allows power to be metered rapidly to individual wheels as grip changes on gravel, mud or uneven surfaces.

With the Off-Road Package, the Cayenne Electric can also increase ground clearance and alter the geometry of the front section to tackle more demanding terrain. The test carried out in Cappadocia included driving over rock, sand and unpaved roads.

A 113 kWh battery and charging at up to 400 kW

The electric system uses a 113 kWh high-voltage battery and an 800-volt architecture. Maximum DC charging power can reach 400 kW under specific conditions.

According to Porsche data, charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes around 16 minutes under the optimal conditions specified by the manufacturer. In ten minutes, the Cayenne Electric can recover up to 325 km of range.

The range also introduces the possibility of inductive charging at up to 11 kW. With the optional Porsche Wireless Charging system, the car can be charged simply by parking it above a dedicated floor plate.

Up to 654 km of WLTP range

Range figures vary according to version and configuration. For the Italian market, Porsche currently quotes between 576 and 644 km WLTP for the Cayenne Electric, between 589 and 654 km for the Cayenne S Electric and between 564 and 625 km for the Cayenne Turbo Electric.

These figures show that the project was not developed around performance alone. The ability to recharge a large-capacity battery quickly becomes central for a vehicle also intended to cover long distances.

More space and a highly digital interior

The Cayenne Electric measures 4,985 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 3,023 mm, almost 13 centimetres longer than the previous combustion-engined Cayenne. The increase in distance between the axles particularly improves space for rear passengers.

The interior introduces the curved OLED Flow Display in the centre console, accompanied by a 14.25-inch digital instrument display and, optionally, a dedicated screen for the front passenger.

Digitalisation has not completely removed traditional controls. Frequently used functions, including climate control and audio volume, retain physical controls.

An electric Cayenne without giving up versatility

The transition to electric power fundamentally changes the technology of the Cayenne, but not the role Porsche continues to assign to the model. The new generation is expected to combine performance, range, comfort and the ability to adapt to very different driving conditions.

The Turbo’s power output is the most striking figure, but the project’s most interesting aspect arguably lies in the integration of electronic traction management, suspension systems, high-power charging and range. This balance is where the Cayenne Electric seeks to carry into the electric era the versatility the model has developed since 2002.
