For three days, members of the Greek and international maritime community exchanged ports, offices and commercial routes for the fairways of Costa Navarino. From 4 to 6 September, the Greek Maritime Golf Event brought together 84 golfers in 21 teams in Messinia, confirming a format that for twelve years has used golf as a meeting ground for maritime professionals.
More than a sporting competition, the event created a setting where sport, professional relationships and social responsibility could coexist naturally.
Golf as a meeting place
The main competition took place on The Dunes Course at Costa Navarino, using a Shotgun Scramble 4-Ball format.
In this context, golf becomes a common language. Corporate roles and formalities temporarily fade into the background, leaving room for team play, conversation and shared experience.
Non-golfers were also able to discover the sport through a Golf Clinic led by PGA golfer and event organiser Thanos Karantzias.
The maritime community beyond business
The Greek Maritime Golf Event has been conceived specifically as a gathering for shipping professionals.
Its professional dimension therefore remains important, but moves outside the traditional setting of conferences and corporate meetings. Costa Navarino provides an environment where networking becomes more informal, developing naturally between the course, social moments and the final evening.
It is also an example of how professional events are evolving: less focused on formal institutional encounters and increasingly built around experiences where business relationships and leisure overlap.
When an event supports a tangible cause
Alongside the sporting programme, the 12th edition retained a strong charitable dimension by supporting Floga – Parents Association of Children with Cancer.
Participants contributed through the purchase of gifts made available during the event, with proceeds supporting the association’s work providing medical, psychological and social care to children with cancer and their families.
This element takes the gathering beyond sport and professional networking, turning participation into practical support for a wider community.
A tournament decided by a single point
The sporting competition remained close until the final holes.
The team of Oikonomou, Tziotis, Kontaxakis and Angelakis claimed first place with 109 points. Meimaridis, Karnezis W., Jansen and Karnezis A. finished just one point behind on 108, while Vezlivtsev, Dalakouras, Noulen and Kariotis completed the podium with 103.
Psaromatis won the Longest Drive competition, while Moraitis took Closest to the Pin.
Costa Navarino, when the destination becomes part of the experience
The landscape of Messinia was more than a backdrop to the event.
The course, Costa Navarino’s surroundings and the closing evening at Onuki Restaurant made the destination an integral part of the experience.
For a professional community accustomed to moving between the Mediterranean, ports and international shipping routes, meeting in a location that combines sea, sport and hospitality feels naturally connected to the world these professionals represent.
Perhaps this is the enduring strength of the Greek Maritime Golf Event: a reminder that professional communities are built not only through business, but also through shared experiences, fair competition and opportunities to meet away from the desk.
