The name has changed, but more importantly, a collaboration that had already become central to the studio’s development now has a clearer identity. Gresham Yacht Design has become Gresham Marshall, formally recognising the partnership between Steve Gresham and Mark Marshall and opening a new chapter for the London-based yacht design studio.
The new identity is therefore more than a branding exercise. According to the studio, it represents the natural evolution of a professional relationship developed over time and built around complementary skills, shared values and an approach in which aesthetics and function are intended to work together.
From OceanXplorer to new projects
The studio’s history is already associated with several distinctive yachts. One of its best-known projects is OceanXplorer, the 87-metre explorer yacht featured in the BBC series Blue Planet, a vessel that reflects an approach in which yacht design must respond to real operational requirements as well as visual expectations.
The focus now turns towards projects under development and construction. Among those highlighted by the studio is Romeo 60, the new 60-metre yacht currently in build at Romeo Marine and also used as one of the visual references for this new chapter.
It is this link between established experience and future projects that makes the transition more significant than a simple rebrand. Gresham Marshall aims to retain continuity with its previous work while defining its future direction more clearly.
Design with Purpose
At the heart of the new identity is a straightforward philosophy: Design with Purpose.
For Gresham Marshall, yacht design should do more than create a strong visual impression. Every line, space and innovation should serve a purpose and contribute to improving the way owners and guests experience life on the water.
It is an approach that feels particularly relevant as contemporary superyacht design increasingly explores flexible spaces, stronger connections between interior and exterior areas, new technologies and different ways of living on board.
The studio’s stated ambition remains to create yachts combining elegance, innovation and functionality, treating these qualities as interconnected parts of the same design process.
Two perspectives behind one vision
The launch of Gresham Marshall primarily formalises the creative relationship between its two founders.
Steve Gresham describes the partnership as the result of years of working together and gradually developing a shared understanding of what yacht design should represent. An important point emerges from his comments: Mark Marshall’s role in the creative process is not presented as a sudden change, but as the formal recognition of a position that has developed naturally over time.
Marshall, in turn, highlights the value of their different perspectives. Their collaboration is based on distinct approaches but shared values, with the aim of finding solutions that are not only visually recognisable but also consistent with functionality and the onboard experience.
Beyond superyachts
Gresham Marshall works across exterior design, interior design and visionary yacht development.
Its portfolio and areas of interest include bespoke superyachts, explorer vessels and future-focused concepts, all developed through an approach that seeks to connect aesthetics, functionality and innovation.
In this sense, the new name can also be interpreted as a statement of continuity. This is not a completely new studio, but rather the formal expression of a creative structure that was already shaping projects and decisions behind the scenes.
A new phase defined by the yachts to come
The move to Gresham Marshall comes at a time when the studio has several projects on the drawing board and others already under construction. This is likely to be where the new chapter becomes most visible.
Romeo 60 is the first concrete project highlighted in the announcement, while the studio also anticipates further projects and collaborations that should gradually reveal how the Design with Purpose philosophy will translate into shapes, spaces and onboard solutions.
For the superyacht world, the change of name is therefore only one part of the story. The more interesting question will be what this new phase produces and how the partnership between Steve Gresham and Mark Marshall will shape the yachts that follow.
