Docking assistance, dynamic positioning, intelligent navigation and adaptable spaces define MIRAVA’s new approach to boating

MIRAVA starts with a practical question: how much technology does a boat really need if the goal is not to add complexity, but to make a day on the water easier? The new brand’s answer takes the form of a 7.9-metre smart boat in which automation, modularity and connectivity are designed to work quietly in the background, leaving the owner free to concentrate on enjoying the experience.

Electric propulsion is therefore only one part of the project. Perhaps more interesting is the way MIRAVA aims to address some of the everyday situations encountered on board, from marina manoeuvres and holding position to water sports.

A 7.9-metre boat with two personalities

MIRAVA measures 7.9 metres in length with a beam of 2.44 metres and is built in glass-reinforced fibre plastic. The declared capacity is eight people.

Two propulsion options are available. The electric version offers a maximum output of 150 HP with a 100 kWh battery and a stated top speed of 20 knots. The petrol version increases maximum power to 250 HP, has a 380-litre fuel tank and, according to the manufacturer, can reach 30 knots.

Offering both alternatives means that MIRAVA is not defined solely by electric mobility. Its identity is shaped more broadly by the platform itself and by the way the boat is intended to be used.

Technology enters everyday manoeuvres

One of MIRAVA’s main areas of focus is assistance during situations that can demand greater attention, particularly for owners who do not spend every day at the helm.

The Intelligent Docking Assistance system is designed to simplify low-speed manoeuvring when entering or leaving a marina, combining control, sensing and driver assistance. It does not remove the person at the helm from the process; instead, technology is used to make confined spaces and precision manoeuvres easier to manage.

This may be one of the more relevant interpretations of the smart boat concept: not filling the helm with technology for its own sake, but allowing systems to intervene when they can genuinely reduce workload on board.

Holding position without constant corrections

The Dynamic Positioning System combines GPS positioning, motor control and dedicated algorithms to help maintain the boat’s position and heading.

Such a system can be useful while fishing, during short stops or whenever keeping the boat in a precise location would otherwise require repeated corrections.

On a day boat intended to support several different activities within the same day, technology therefore takes on a practical role: freeing up time and attention rather than creating another system that needs to be managed.

Navigation assistance, not a boat without a driver

MIRAVA also introduces what it calls Autonomous Navigation Assistance. The terminology needs to be understood carefully: the manufacturer describes it as support for navigation through route planning, decision assistance and obstacle awareness.

The brand’s stated philosophy is that intelligence should not replace people, but give them greater freedom.

The same principle applies to the Intelligent Safety System, which combines surrounding awareness, safety monitoring and real-time alerts. It represents a different way of approaching onboard electronics, closer to active assistance than automation for its own sake.

A boat that can follow you on the water

Among the more unusual features is the Smart Follow System, developed for activities in which the user may temporarily move away from the helm.

MIRAVA describes wearable interaction, a follow mode and intelligent tracking. The system is presented for activities including paddle sports, diving and other water-based pursuits, creating a more dynamic relationship between the boat and people in the water.

The idea shifts attention away from the boat simply as a means of transport and towards the boat as a platform around which an entire day on the water can be organised.

Space changes with the day

The layout follows the same philosophy. MIRAVA includes a recreation platform, convertible backrests, a private restroom and, above all, a system that allows the aft area to change configuration.

One of the more distinctive elements is a detachable tender, integrated into a modular concept that allows the boat to adapt to different activities.

Cruising, fishing, water sports and a relaxed day with friends do not necessarily require the same arrangement. MIRAVA therefore moves away from a completely fixed layout, making adaptability part of the boat’s identity.

Technology designed to keep evolving

According to MIRAVA, the technology behind its intelligent systems builds on solutions already deployed in real marine environments. The company states that its technological foundation has been used on more than 2,000 intelligent vessels and accumulated over 500,000 nautical miles across different operating conditions.

MIRAVA also states that every smart boat will receive lifetime OTA software updates. This approach is already familiar in the automotive and consumer technology sectors, but it creates an interesting prospect for boating: certain capabilities can continue to develop after the vessel has been delivered.

A different interpretation of the day boat

MIRAVA is not necessarily trying to reinvent the eight-metre boat itself. Instead, it is attempting to reshape the relationship between the boat and its user. Electric and conventional propulsion become two choices within the same platform, while the defining feature is the effort to make interaction with the boat more intuitive.

For Mediterranean boating, often characterised by short coastal passages, bays, swimming, water sports and time spent at anchor, this philosophy may prove particularly relevant.

The real test will be how effectively these technologies can disappear into everyday use. Because MIRAVA’s most interesting promise is not to put more electronics on board, but to reach the point where owners have to think about them less.
