Four days of racing in Costa Smeralda will celebrate sailing, the ClubSwan community and sixty years of Nautor Swan

La Rolex Swan Cup torna nelle acque di Porto Cervo per la sua 23ª edizione e si prepara a vivere un appuntamento dal valore particolare. Nel 2026, infatti, Nautor Swan celebra sessant’anni dalla fondazione, trasformando la regata in un incontro tra memoria, competizione e nuove prospettive per il cantiere finlandese.

Organizzato con lo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, l’evento riunirà ancora una volta armatori, equipaggi e appassionati provenienti da diversi Paesi. Sono attese oltre 120 imbarcazioni Swan, una partecipazione che potrebbe rendere questa edizione una delle più ampie nella storia della manifestazione.

Una regata nata nel 1980

La prima Rolex Swan Cup si disputò nel 1980. Da allora, la manifestazione ha costruito una propria identità nel calendario internazionale della vela, combinando regate tecniche, paesaggi mediterranei e un programma sociale pensato per favorire l’incontro tra i partecipanti.

Il rapporto tra Rolex, Yacht Club Costa Smeralda e Nautor Swan ha accompagnato questa evoluzione per oltre quattro decenni. Porto Cervo e l’Arcipelago di La Maddalena offrono lo scenario naturale, mentre la comunità Swan porta in mare generazioni differenti di yacht, progettisti, armatori ed equipaggi.

Sessant’anni di storia per Nautor Swan

Nautor Swan venne fondata nel 1966 da Pekka Koskenkylä a Pietarsaari, in Finlandia. In sessant’anni il cantiere ha costruito più di 2.350 yacht, sviluppando una reputazione legata alla qualità costruttiva, all’eleganza delle linee e alla capacità di coniugare prestazioni e navigazione d’altura.

Oggi il marchio opera sotto la proprietà di Sanlorenzo e affronta questo anniversario come un passaggio tra continuità e trasformazione. La gamma comprende yacht da crociera, maxi yacht, modelli one design, costruzioni in alluminio, progetti dedicati all’esplorazione e una divisione a motore.

Tarantella torna sulla linea di partenza

Tra le presenze più significative figur­erà Tarantella, identificata come Swan 36-001. È la prima imbarcazione della storia produttiva del cantiere e rappresenta il punto dal quale ebbe inizio il percorso industriale di Nautor Swan.

Dopo un accurato refit destinato a riportarla al suo aspetto originario, Tarantella parteciperà alla Rolex Swan Cup insieme a modelli molto più recenti. La sua presenza creerà un collegamento diretto tra il 1966 e l’attuale generazione Swan, mostrando come la storia del marchio continui a navigare accanto alle sue evoluzioni più moderne.

Dallo Swan 36 alle nuove ammiraglie

Accanto a Tarantella sono attesi gli Swan 128, il nuovo Swan 80 e alcune delle unità più recenti della gamma. Il confronto tra barche appartenenti a epoche differenti permetterà di osservare l’evoluzione del design, dei materiali, delle tecnologie di bordo e delle prestazioni veliche.

La flotta non sarà quindi uniforme, ma composta da yacht con dimensioni, età e vocazioni diverse. Proprio questa varietà rappresenta uno degli elementi distintivi della Rolex Swan Cup, dove modelli storici, cruiser contemporanei e imbarcazioni sviluppate per la competizione condividono lo stesso evento.

Tre anime per la comunità ClubSwan

La struttura sportiva della manifestazione rifletterà le tre aree nelle quali si articola oggi ClubSwan. ClubSwan Racing sarà dedicata alle classi one design e comprenderà ClubSwan 50, ClubSwan 43, ClubSwan 42, ClubSwan 36, ClubSwan 28 e Swan 45.

ClubSwan Legacy riunirà invece le imbarcazioni storiche progettate da Sparkman & Stephens, Ron Holland e Germán Frers. Per la prima volta questi yacht saranno coinvolti in una divisione capace di raccontare insieme differenti capitoli della storia progettuale Swan.

ClubSwan Spirit sarà riservata agli armatori interessati alla navigazione, all’avventura e alla partecipazione in configurazione più vicina alla crociera. Una divisione specifica consentirà infatti di competere senza intervenire con un’ottimizzazione esasperata della barca, preservandone impostazione e comfort originari.

Quattro giornate di regate

Il programma sportivo prevede prove preparatorie nella giornata di martedì, seguite da quattro giorni di regata da mercoledì a sabato. Le competizioni si svolgeranno lungo percorsi capaci di valorizzare le condizioni del vento e la geografia della Costa Smeralda.

Alla flotta abituale si aggiungeranno numerose imbarcazioni alla loro prima partecipazione. Per questi equipaggi, Porto Cervo rappresenterà non soltanto un campo di regata, ma anche il primo incontro diretto con una comunità internazionale che condivide lo stesso legame con il marchio.

Porto Cervo tra sport e incontri

La settimana comprenderà anche un articolato programma a terra. Sono previsti la cerimonia di apertura, gli incontri quotidiani dopo le regate in Piazza Azzurra, la Rolex Crew Party e la premiazione conclusiva del sabato.

Un momento centrale sarà la cena degli armatori dedicata al sessantesimo anniversario di Nautor Swan. La dimensione conviviale rimane infatti parte integrante della manifestazione, dove il risultato sportivo convive con il piacere di ritrovarsi tra persone unite dalla vela e dal mare.

Una storia che continua a cambiare rotta

La Rolex Swan Cup 2026 non sarà soltanto una celebrazione del passato. La presenza contemporanea di Tarantella, dei modelli storici e delle nuove ammiraglie offrirà una rappresentazione concreta del percorso compiuto dal cantiere e delle direzioni che intende seguire.

In un momento nel quale il mondo dello yachting sta ridefinendo tecnologie, materiali ed esperienze di navigazione, l’appuntamento di Porto Cervo restituisce centralità a un elemento rimasto invariato in sessant’anni, il desiderio di navigare e condividere il mare.

Rolex Swan Cup 2026 returns to Porto Cervo for Nautor Swan’s 60th anniversary

The Rolex Swan Cup is returning to Porto Cervo for its 23rd edition in a year carrying particular significance for the international sailing community. In 2026, Nautor Swan celebrates 60 years since its foundation, turning the regatta into a meeting point between heritage, competition and the future direction of the Finnish shipyard.

Organised with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, the event will once again welcome owners, crews and sailing enthusiasts from around the world. More than 120 Swan yachts are expected to participate, potentially creating one of the largest fleets in the history of the regatta.

A regatta established in 1980

The first Rolex Swan Cup was held in 1980. Since then, the event has developed a distinctive position on the international sailing calendar by combining competitive racing, Mediterranean scenery and a social programme designed to bring participants together.

The relationship between Rolex, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and Nautor Swan has supported this development for more than four decades. Porto Cervo and the La Maddalena Archipelago provide the natural setting, while the Swan community brings different generations of yachts, designers, owners and crews onto the same waters.

Six decades of Nautor Swan

Nautor Swan was founded in 1966 by Pekka Koskenkylä in Pietarsaari, Finland. During the following six decades, the shipyard built more than 2,350 yachts and established an international reputation based on craftsmanship, elegant design, offshore capability and sailing performance.

Now under the ownership of Sanlorenzo, the brand approaches its anniversary as a point of continuity and renewal. Its current portfolio includes cruising yachts, maxi yachts, one-design racers, aluminium projects, exploration-oriented models and a separate motor yacht division.

Tarantella returns to the starting line

One of the most meaningful participants will be Tarantella, identified as Swan 36-001. She was the first yacht in the shipyard’s production history and represents the point from which the Nautor Swan story began.

Following a meticulous refit intended to restore her original appearance, Tarantella will compete alongside yachts created many decades later. Her presence will establish a direct connection between 1966 and the current Swan generation, demonstrating how the brand’s earliest chapter remains active on the water.

From the Swan 36 to the latest flagships

The fleet is expected to include Swan 128 flagships, the new Swan 80 and several recent additions to the range. Bringing these yachts together will provide a broad view of the evolution of design, construction materials, onboard technologies and sailing performance.

The fleet will therefore be anything but uniform. Historic yachts, modern cruisers and racing-focused models will share the same event, creating the variety that has become one of the defining qualities of the Rolex Swan Cup.

Three complementary ClubSwan identities

The sporting structure of the event will reflect the three areas that now shape ClubSwan. ClubSwan Racing will remain focused on one-design competition and will include the ClubSwan 50, ClubSwan 43, ClubSwan 42, ClubSwan 36, ClubSwan 28 and Swan 45 classes.

ClubSwan Legacy will bring together historic yachts designed by Sparkman & Stephens, Ron Holland and Germán Frers. For the first time, these different generations will compete within a division created to celebrate the designs that helped establish the Swan identity.

ClubSwan Spirit will welcome modern owners interested in adventure, cruising and the pleasure of sailing together. A dedicated division will also allow yachts to participate without extensive racing optimisation, preserving their authentic cruising configuration and onboard experience.

Four days of racing in Costa Smeralda

The sporting programme will begin with practice races on Tuesday, followed by four days of competition from Wednesday to Saturday. The courses will make use of the wind conditions and distinctive geography of the Costa Smeralda.

A significant number of first-time participants are expected to join the regular fleet. For these owners and crews, Porto Cervo will offer more than a racing venue. It will also provide an introduction to an international community connected by the same passion for sailing and Swan yachts.

Porto Cervo beyond the racecourse

The week will also include a full programme ashore. Scheduled events include the opening ceremony, daily post-race gatherings in Piazza Azzurra, the Rolex Crew Party and the final prize-giving ceremony on Saturday.

A central occasion will be the owners’ dinner celebrating Nautor Swan’s 60th anniversary. The social dimension remains an essential element of the Rolex Swan Cup, where racing results coexist with friendship, shared experiences and a common connection to the sea.

A heritage continuing to evolve

The 2026 Rolex Swan Cup will not simply look back at the history of the shipyard. The presence of Tarantella, classic designs and current flagships will create a tangible representation of how Nautor Swan has evolved and where it intends to go next.

At a time when yachting is reconsidering technologies, materials and ways of experiencing the sea, the Porto Cervo gathering will return attention to an element that has remained unchanged for sixty years, the desire to sail and share time on the water.
