Set beside the clear waters of Mallorca’s northern coast, Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor approaches Mediterranean hospitality through a thoughtful balance of scenery, heritage and contemporary comfort. A retreat between the Tramuntana mountains and the sea

The resort stands on Playa de Formentor, close to Port de Pollença, on a peninsula shaped by limestone peaks, pine-covered slopes and sheltered coves. The Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape, rises behind the property, while the Mediterranean stretches out in front. Its secluded atmosphere comes less from physical distance than from the powerful presence of the surrounding nature.

A story that began in 1929

Formentor’s reputation was established long before the arrival of Four Seasons. The original Hotel Formentor opened in 1929, inspired by Argentine arts patron Adan Diehl, who envisioned a meeting place for writers, artists and international guests. Over the following decades, the hotel welcomed leading figures from culture, cinema and public life, developing the reserved elegance of a creative refuge rather than a conventional social hotspot.

A contemporary future for a Mallorcan landmark

Following a partial opening in summer 2024, the resort completed its renovation and fully reopened in March 2025. The project retained the long, pale profile of the historic building while renewing its interiors, technology and hospitality spaces. Rather than turning the property into a monument to its own past, the redesign has given it a modern identity that remains connected to the landscape and history of Formentor.

Rooms designed around light and outdoor living

The accommodation has been conceived to soften the boundary between indoors and outdoors. Rooms and suites feature furnished terraces overlooking the Mediterranean, gardens or pine-covered hills, while selected categories include private plunge pools. Retractable glass walls, natural tones and bright interiors allow the landscape to remain part of the experience throughout the day.

Slow days on Formentor Beach

A grand staircase leads down to Formentor Beach, a stretch of golden sand approximately one kilometre long and naturally shaded by pine trees. Its calm, clear water is suited to snorkelling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. These quiet activities offer a gentle way to explore the bay without disturbing the atmosphere that makes this corner of Mallorca so distinctive.

Discovering Cap de Formentor by yacht

Seen from the water, the peninsula reveals its most dramatic profile. The resort offers yacht and sailing excursions along Cap de Formentor, passing steep cliffs, seabird habitats and small coves that can only be reached by boat. The journey may include swimming stops, a beach picnic and views of the historic lighthouse standing at the far end of the headland.

Mallorcan flavours served by the sea

The resort’s dining collection follows the rhythm of the day through restaurants, bars and informal spaces inspired by Mediterranean cuisine. Seasonal ingredients, local produce and island traditions appear in settings overlooking the coast or surrounded by gardens. Guests can also dine at the finca within the private vineyards, where locally inspired dishes are served beneath the stars in a stone courtyard.

Wellness, recreation and time outdoors

The spa, swimming pools and recreational facilities extend the experience beyond the beach. Guests can combine wellness treatments with hiking, cycling and scenic routes through the estate and nearby mountains. Cap de Formentor is particularly well known among cyclists, offering demanding roads, changing elevations and repeated views across the Mediterranean.

Luxury that gives the landscape room to breathe

The appeal of Four Seasons Mallorca at Formentor does not depend on excess. Its identity comes from allowing guests to experience one of Mallorca’s most compelling coastal landscapes at a slower pace. Service, design and curated activities are always available, yet they rarely compete with the setting.
