The sports car of the future may no longer need the sound of an engine behind its passengers, but that does not mean it must lose its character. With the Polestar 6, the Swedish brand envisions an electric roadster combining performance, visual lightness and the pleasure of open-top driving. It is a car designed to move forward while preserving the emotional quality that makes a journey feel like more than simple transportation.

A new vision of electric grand touring

Polestar 6 originated from the company’s electric 2+2 roadster concept, developed to explore how the sports car could evolve in the age of electrification. The idea is not merely to replace an internal-combustion engine, but to create a different driving experience based on the immediate response of an electric powertrain and the freedom of an open roof.

Its two-door, four-seat configuration brings the model close to the tradition of the modern grand tourer. It is conceived not only around outright performance, but also around journeys to be enjoyed at a more relaxed pace. That philosophy feels particularly suited to the Mediterranean, where coastal roads, natural light and memorable destinations often matter as much as arrival itself.

Clean forms inspired by aerospace design

The styling develops the design language introduced by the Polestar Precept and transforms it into a low, uncluttered and instantly recognisable silhouette. The surfaces appear taut without becoming overly aggressive, while the proportions convey movement even when the car is standing still.

Aerospace influences extend beyond appearance. Instead of relying on large wings or prominent spoilers, the concept integrates its aerodynamic solutions into the body. The rear lights, for example, also function as aerodynamic blades. Technology remains visible, but it is never treated as decoration for its own sake.

Lightness begins with the structure

At the heart of the project is a bonded aluminium unibody made from several grades of anodised aluminium. The components are adhesively bonded and oven-cured to achieve a carefully considered balance between strength and weight, two fundamental qualities for the dynamic behaviour of a roadster.

The construction method also gives designers greater freedom, allowing them to retain sharp lines and highly controlled details. The structure is therefore more than a technical foundation. It contributes directly to the visual identity and precision of the car.

Materials designed for another life

Polestar also addresses the difficulties involved in recycling aluminium. When different alloys are mixed, the recovered material can lose some of its original qualities and may only be suitable for lower-grade applications. The concept seeks to reduce this problem by labelling the various types of aluminium used throughout the vehicle.

This makes the materials easier to identify and separate at the end of the car’s life. It is a relatively straightforward idea, yet a meaningful one, because it treats recycling as part of the initial design process rather than as an issue to be considered years later.

A cabin centred on the driver

The interior takes several ideas developed for the Precept and adapts them to a 2+2 roadster. The driver remains at the centre of the experience, with controls and information arranged to be easy to reach without visually overwhelming the cabin.

The infotainment system is based on Android Automotive, while the interior incorporates Amplitex composite panels and other materials developed with improved sustainability in mind. Carefully selected colour combinations preserve a contemporary and refined atmosphere while highlighting the clean architecture of the cockpit.

Exclusivity through mono-material design

One of the most interesting elements is the use of mono-material solutions for complex interior components. Building a part around a single base material can eliminate difficult separation processes during recycling and reduce the amount of material that ultimately becomes waste.

The sense of quality therefore does not depend on combining multiple layers that are almost impossible to recover. Instead, exclusivity comes from design, texture and manufacturing precision, suggesting that luxury and recyclability do not have to occupy opposing worlds.

Performance and emotion within one idea

Polestar presents the roadster concept as evidence that an electric sports car can offer more than impressive technology. Electrification becomes a tool for immediate response, direct control and a stronger relationship between the driver, the car and the surrounding landscape.

A distinction must still be made between the concept and the eventual production vehicle. Polestar notes that the design, features and innovations shown may change before the final model reaches customers. Polestar 6 represents a clearly defined direction, although the finished car remains a work in progress.

A roadster for a new electric lifestyle

At a time when SUVs and crossovers dominate the market, an electric convertible feels refreshingly unexpected. It does not attempt to be practical in every possible circumstance and makes no effort to disguise its emotional purpose. Instead, it proposes a different way of experiencing mobility, one in which the journey once again becomes part of the destination.

With the Polestar 6, open-air driving meets restrained Scandinavian design and a thoughtful approach to material use. The result is the promise of a quiet and sophisticated sports car, capable of turning a coastal road into an experience that feels both modern and deeply personal.
